On the 19, this sensation is less pronounced, and you wonder why – considering all that Boost that’s added to the new midsole. Now, the first major update to the brand that ate the world: UltraBOOST 2019 makes it springier and more comfortable.

This Ultraboost 19 shoe has an impressive 29mm heel and a 19mm forefoot built up from Boost foam which gives the shoe an energetic feel. Without padding, the level of lacing play comes down a notch. Tracking cookies: The upper is a little stiff and takes some time to break in.

It did feel sloppy at higher speeds (say sub 6 min miles) and didn’t give me a great sense of stability if I had to do fast lateral movement (don’t wear these for basketball). Your consent remains valid for 6 months unless you withdraw it. The updated midsole has a lot more Boost than the standard version. Most shoes in the same field as the Ultraboost 19s are generally both cheaper and lighter, so Adidas is likely assuming the benefit of Boost foam combined with the designs of the upper attract runners. The upper gains more space, the plastic cage is gone, and there’s even more Boost foam padding your feet.

England and Wales company registration number 2008885. Upper: Stretch knit mesh, synthetic midfoot panel, butterfly heel clip.

Midsole: Full-length Boost e-TPU foam, plastic Torsion spring.

A urethane clip is fused over both the upper and the sidewall, thus adding stability to the soft midsole. At a whopping $180, this product is much more expensive than the vast majority of shoes that we tested, and we have a hard time justifying it. The high-volume midsole is very easy on your feet; you’re never left wanting for the lack of cushioning.

Apart from the Boost foam, there’s a rigid polymer bar below the midfoot that stiffens the shoe and helps your toe-off. There are a couple of reasons, and one of them doesn’t even have anything to do with the midsole. And just like the ST, the under-arch area feels substantial.

The standard (older) Ultraboost is the closest one can get to the UB 19. Why else would they feature a cage-free version named the Ultraboost Uncaged? This is no longer a full piece of plastic, but instead a plastic-wrapped wire frame, which gives your heel room to expand upon landing into the gaps where plastic previously restricted its movement. The Adidas UltraBOOST 19 is an impressive update to the world's favourite running shoe, UltraBOOST 2019 might not be a radical departure for this massively popular line of running shoes but it is a definite stride forward in terms of comfort and bounce, Extra Boost foam means more bounce in every step, The upper holds the foot in place better than past UltraBOOST shoes, A little too heavy for fast training and short races, People may think you've bought them just to look cool, (Not that there is anything wrong with that). A shoe is a sum of parts, and in the Ultraboost’s case, some were greater than the others.

Periodic maintenance is advised.

Despite its many flaws, the Ultraboost went to become the best-selling shoe in its price-segment. The outsole grip has improved. This did not influence the outcome of this review, written after running more than 50 miles in them. The cushioned Ultraboost gets an update after four long years. Either way there is a tonne of interest in Adidas Ultra Boost in its 2019 remix form. It also helped that the Ultraboost was adopted by casual-wear consumers who overlooked features which would  otherwise be missed under performance running conditions. The soft layer fits flush over the midfoot. The Ultraboost 19 has too much squish for shorter races. The Fresh Foam midsole doesn’t have the lively bounce of adidas Boost, but it offers a clean ride experience. Another factor is the coverage area of the lacing panel. It is bottom-heavier than the OG model due to a more minimal upper and a larger Boost midsole.

There’s a fine, ribbed texture all over the Boost midsole which didn’t exist previously. First impressions? Even adidas knew how bad the plastic cage was. Click Accept to continue. The upper is an elastic bootie that has no tongue (or an integrated tongue depending on how you look at it) with a flared out heel. The new counter is movement-friendly so it works together with the softer components without getting in the way.

Weight: 309 gms/ 10.9 Oz for a half pair of Men's US 9/UK 8.5/EUR 42.5/CM 27. Instead, the Brooks Levitate 2 compares (somewhat) with the Ultraboost; its 11.2-ounce weight is nearly identical to the UB 19. The soft ISOFIT upper does a better fit job than the Ultra, and the firmer Everun is more business-like. The standard Ultraboost has a bit of a sink-in effect. The stretchy upper is also unlikely to cause any problems.

Add in the fact that the laces are very rigid/not stretchy and you have a tough time setting these shoes up for a quality fit for running.
They have an eye-catching shoe that feels comfortable when lacing them up in the store, and the shoe has a price point that suggests you’re buying something at the top of it’s class. Because as much loved as the previous incarnation was, in the world of fashion, as in running, you can't just stand still, if you expect to get anywhere. Review Our Cookie Policy Accept. Adidas calls their Primeknit 360 a seamless “second skin”.

Why else would they feature a cage-free version named the Ultraboost Uncaged?Despite its many … After all, the sensory perception of great lacing cinch is as much about the padded base. Solereview does not publish sponsored content nor receive free samples.

UltraBoost 2019 doesn't have a lot to prove to either camp, but Adidas has nonetheless upped both the energy return and the comfort of the shoe, and changed its look (a bit). adidas makes changes to the heel section too. To revamp the UltraBOOST Adidas stripped it down to its constituent parts and got rid of anything it could, with the resulting shoe being made from just 17 pieces. The shoe is striking with a large exposed foam midsole, a complicated knit pattern (mine was “cloud white”), and a white outsole. Perfect for walking around, sitting, but becomes an issue when you want the shoe to feel responsive on quick runs. The original UltraBoost was far from perfect. We never thought we would say this, but the regular Ultraboost’s tighter upper fit and relatively lower-profile midsole make it more performance-oriented than the 2019 version.

You tighten up the shoe with fairly thick laces that weave into a plastic patch that grips your foot onto the shoe. The midfoot wrap is softer but it tends to block ventilation and accumulate dirt within its pocket. Frankly, not a lot.

It’s easy to slip the UB 19 on and off, a nod to its casual-use intent. There is 20% more Boost in the midsole of the updated UltraBoost, which makes it more responsive and probably more durable as well. However, it’s undoubtedly on easy and long runs where the UltraBoost does its best work.

It’s still not a shoe that would be a first choice for track day or a fast 5K, with the hefty chunk of Boost on the sole feeling unwieldy if you try and sprint in it. As a whole, the forefoot and toe area is roomier than regular UB. There a few areas where the Ultraboost 19 doesn’t do well at. By giving your consent below, you agree that we place and read cookies on all our websites (see this overview) and combine these collected data. We’ve left out the Fresh Foam More because we don’t have miles on that shoe – yet. The plastic cage on previous UltraBOOSTs in particular could be niggly, and this issue is completely removed by the mesh.

Based on reviews of more than 4000 professional runners, Adidas came in 2019 with its latest version of Boost layer and added some 20 % of material to the heel part of the construction. This, to us, is a marked improvement in the heel counter design. The piped clip is easy on the heel while providing adequate cupping around the foot.
