The prospect of a Supercars Camaro has been a hot topic since Ford’s recent announcement that it will bring its Mustang to the championship in 2019. Holden is committed to running a V8 Commodore in Supercars for the next two years, ruling out the prospect of a Camaro joining the series in the near future. Supercars had expected to have Holden or GM as an operational factory beyond the 2021 season with Holden and Triple Eight Racing’s program in place until the end of 2021. Holden’s impending departure from the Aussie new-car marketplace means the Commodore will also disappear from the Supercars grid at the end of next year, effectively ending the decades-long Blue v Red rivalry that has been so central to the sport. While it's expected the category will introduce revised technical regulations ahead of the 2021 season, Holden says it won't make an immediate jump to a new package when the new rules kick in. "Holden recently re-committed to racing in Supercars through until the end of 2021, and that will happen with the currently homologated ZB Commodore race car," read a Holden statement. Holden has committed to keeping both the Commodore bodyshape and the V8 engine in Supercars until at least the end of the 2021 season. The 2021 Supercars Championship (known for commercial reasons as the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship) is a planned motor racing series for Supercars.It is due to be the twenty-fifth running of the Supercars Championship and the twenty-fifth series in which Supercars have contested the Australian Touring Car Championship, the premier title in Australian motorsport. Holden's discontinued Commodore will continue to battle the Ford Mustang for the 2021 Supercars season, before these new regulations kick in. Holden won't stand in the way if HSV wants to develop a Supercars version of the Chevrolet Camaro, potentially pitting the two-door directly against its ZB Commodore.
