sonos arc release date

It has the capacity to surprise with smaller spatial details too: we said it can’t surround you, but it does still add a distinct depth with the right soundtrack. The speaker, called Sonos Beam, addressed a few converging trends at the time. Connect with friends faster than ever with the new Facebook app. We love the Sonos Arc, and if it ticks your boxes in technical terms, you will too. It’ll cost the same $499 and start shipping on June 10. We haven’t gotten a chance to listen to the Arc yet, but at first blush this appears to fit right in with other Sonos products: pricey and relatively inflexible as a piece of hardware, but good-looking, seemingly simple to operate, and aided by software. It comes with support for both Alexa and the Google Assistant; you can still only use one digital assistant at a time, but either way you’ll be able to turn on the device and control playback through voice commands.
It’s a great feature that’s optional if you’d rather leave the mic off or not connect any assistants, but for me it’s perfectly suited to a device that essentially sits at the center of the living room experience. Sonos Arc Soundbar: Price, Specs, Release Date. The Arc will run exclusively on the new Sonos S2 platform, which launches on 8th June, two days before the soundbar. The new home theatre speaker comes alongside updates to other Sonos products as well as a major revision to the app that controls its system of internet-enabled speakers.

There’s no remote – you’ll need to use the app or voice assistant control to adjust settings and modes, which can be a little annoying, but not a big problem. But it did not rule out the release of more speakers in the future, noting that its software platform means that more products can be added after release. The Arc alone can’t make it come from behind you, but it still sounds like it comes from a different place, with a different tenor, to the first speaker, still giving the scene a kind of layered 3D richness. It has two HDMI inputs, too, as well as the HDMI out connection to the TV. Obviously, we still went straight to some Atmos content for getting the full effect. Those devices will no longer receive software feature updates, but Sonos says it’ll still send them security patches and bug fixes “for as long as possible.” The devices announced today will only run on the S2 app, which will just be called “Sonos,” while the older app will be called the “Sonos S1 Controller.” Sonos is encouraging those with phased-out devices mixed into their system to upgrade to newer models through its “Trade Up” program, which grants a 30 percent discount on new hardware. It has an all-new design, and updated guts to work as a smart speaker with Google Assistant or Alexa, but its standout feature is without doubt support for Dolby Atmos. Arc looks like a spiritual successor to the Sonos Beam, the first Sonos soundbar to feature a built-in mic and support for virtual voice assistants including Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. The company chose to get rid of both products to simplify its offering, as well as in recognition of the fact that many new TVs are not able to fit properly on sound bases, it said. Those few paragraphs are our only real complaints about the Arc. The Samsung HW-Q90R is also a soundbar/sub/rear speakers package with four upfiring drivers and is around £1,199/$999/AU$1,495 – phenomenal value for glorious system. The Arc features 11 speaker drivers, with individual amplification for each, naturally. But with a growing number of streaming boxes and apps supporting the tech, it’d be tough to justify an $800 soundbar that isn’t Atmos-compatible, and the effect should make a difference. You can tweak things like bass levels in the app, and there's a Night Mode setting for limiting its dynamic oomph if people are asleep upstairs. CNMN Collection The new TV speaker comes alongside a new version of the Play:5, which is now simply called Five, and the Sub. This prevents you from dabbling in complex setups that involve a streaming device as a pass-through, but at the cost of requiring a fairly up-to-date TV. The Arc doesn’t come with a subwoofer, though a new version of Sonos’ Sub is available for £699/$699/AU$999, which is… quite a lot. Both feature new components inside for extra memory and processing, and a different radio, though Sonos said they will sound and work the same as the products they replace. But you do absolutely still get major expressions of height and width built into that wall of sound in front of you. Start your Independent Premium subscription today.
Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control are on board here for that voice control we just mentioned – useful for making this your sole living-room speaker while still keeping smart functionality. The new Arc soundbar adds technologies including eARC – which allows improved sound to be sent through the HDMI cable – as well as voice control, meaning that the soundbar can be turned down using Alexa, for instance. The Beam is just a big cylinder, finished in solid plastic riddled with holes. The Arc has a more rounded design that the previous Playbar soundbar. This is Sonos' first foray into the world of Dolby Atmos soundbars and 3D audio. But that's okay: neither can the B&O Beosound Stage, and that just won our Best Soundbar gong at the T3 Awards 2020, and costs hundreds more than the Arc. The Arc is actually really good at levelling out sources that push in audio at wildly differing levels, so you don't get that thing of Netflix playing really quietly but YouTube shaking the walls down at the same volume, but you still have no idea how loud things will be when you turn your TV on. Along those lines, there’s a new third-generation Sonos Sub, which has gotten a similar boost to memory and processing power but otherwise is identical to the previous model. Your California Privacy Rights | Do Not Sell My Personal Information It takes just a minute, but sadly remains a feature only available to iOS users still – we were surprised not to see the Auto TruePlay tuning of the Sonos Move here. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple iTunes and Vudu all have Atmos content, though there are stragglers like Hulu and HBO Max. The budget models won’t have the fit and finish of the Arc, of course… nor its remarkable prowess with sound, but we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves there. No major design or sound changes here. The Sonos Beam is more stylish, thanks to a fabric outside and its neat mix of a lozenge shape and concave top. Sonos has also included a microphone on the Arc, which allows you to use it with either Alexa or Google Assistant to play music, turn on the TV and do plenty more. It often surprised us with those types of touches even where we weren’t necessarily expecting them: in scenes of waves, watching one crest and fall filled the wall in front of us, but you could also hear the turmoil to the left and right of the screen, where the edges of the same wave had already crashed out of view of the camera, but captured by the mic. In terms of looks, it's nice, though somewhat functional. If we were judging on audio quality alone, this would be a five-star review. Sonos Arc review: price, release date & features Released in June 2020 at £799/$799/AU$1,399, the Arc comes in at a pretty typical price for Atmos soundbars. WIRED Media Group Want to bookmark your favourite articles and stories to read or reference later? All your other devices will need to be updated to S2 in order to work with the Arc, and it's worth remembering that some older Sonos devices are entirely incompatible with the new software. Dolby Atmos, for the uninitiated, is an audio technology that creates its own virtual height channels so, if you’re watching a movie or show, it sounds like things are flying over your head and to the way left and way right of you; not just like the sounds are shooting out from the TV. It has optical too, but that’s more limiting for soundtrack type support, and doesn’t enable instant control of the unit from your TV’s remote.

The Beam, by comparison, checks in at 25.6 inches and will still make more sense for smaller areas. We shouldn't forget Sonos’ other speciality: music. Brand: SonosProduct: ArcRelease Date: June 2020Price: $799From: sonos.com.
