You also get mini quick checks to track progress by skill . I want to introduce guided math into my classroom, but am not sure where to start. Starr, I would be more than happy to share a lesson plan I have.

Which would you recommend since I don't have your kind of time for math: a 10-15 min.

I teach 3rd grade and have decided to teach math this way this year! I have a variety of math board games, file folder games, etc.

It was very doable, as long as you do a whole group introduction. Thank you for sharing your insight and learning experiences with us. Thanks!DianeTeaching with Moxie, Teachers should be creative enough to take lessons in math so that students may not find to be boring during the class. To do the mini-lesson and then stations along with a closing is tough.

I am currently an intern in a 4th grade class. 5th is doing decimals and 6th is dealing with fractions. Darlene, 15 or 20 minutes, lower number or higher number of kids. Does it sound feasible to do a 10 minute whole group and 3 20 minute rotations?

I have about 80 minutes for math (though I may be able to squeeze 90 out of it if I am VERY efficient at getting administrative stuff done in the AM) and it's split up into 60 & 20. I am so excited that I found your blog! Tricky. 2, 3. You can play with any standard deck. I don't know what I am doing wrong, other than winging it. Thanks! As teachers you should think of an alternative way that enhance their mind to think and learn during the course of the lesson.Jojo @ 6th grade math worksheet. I might not do it everytime but enough to make sure the kids are on task and understanding the concepts.
Are you saying you have an additional intervention time to meet with struggling kiddos? Having a the mini-lesson breaks up the length.

My problem is that I have only 60 minutes to work with kids and I am scared that I won't have enough time. I saw you mention your students that receive interventions. How would you suggest rotating stations or how many stations to have if you have 45 minute class periods. If not, I re-teach it to them. I am being asked to use the Workshop (Stations) model in math. Math has been very difficult with 2 grades and areas at the same time. All math results are logged and graded and we show how they are improving through real-time feedback.click hereGrade 2,Grade 3. My stations are 20 minutes long. I am excited to begin guided math groups this school year and am happy to see great resources and ideas!Angie, WOW!

Hi Mary!We are starting guided math at our school this year too and finding your site has been a blessing! Mary, I'm just getting into guided math after working with EDM for the last 5 years. v. What does Whole Group look like with 2 grades at the same time? I love the smaller groups idea. Good Luck! Do you agree?Deborah/The Math Lady. They may not leave this station unless all work is completed. Somedays I tell students what they must play and other times I give a category, such as any multiplication game or any money game.

Hi Mary!I am a 4th grade teacher and I have only 40 minutes a day and I would really like to try guided math groups. I have 3rd and 4th for math, then later 5th and 6th.

I will be there early next week and will be sure to pull a lesson and post it. Hi Mary,I teach Grade 1, and centers have not worked for me in the past.

Students complete Everyday Math Journal- Math Boxes and coordinating Practice Pages, Skill Link pages or individual worksheet practice. I love the center idea. Try to make it as easy on yourself as possible.

During group you won't be teaching the main concept the first time, you are reviewing, reinforcing and answering questions. Any suggestions??? Do you have a separate time of day that you do them? They are not grasping the concepts. Once you can get a good idea on your students, you can determine what route you want to go. Dear Mary, One thing that I've learned is that the 4th Group: the one that the teacher sees the last session of Guided Math should have some of your most responsible students in it.

When you make your schedule for which groups you will meet each day, make it a standard that you meet with your intervention group everyday. If we are doing a multiplication unit, I might focus more on multiplication games for that time period, same for place value or decimals. I can understand giving a worksheet at this time to reinforce skills but I am not sure what a Maths Journal or maths boxes are. Also, I have access to laptops, would you incorporate skill building on maths websites (the students pay a subscription to a very good one called mathletics) as one of the rotations? I've gotten some great ideas from the site and your posts.

one is a computer program (Moby Max)one is a word problem game. I am not sure how to shrink the lesson down to an introduction only so I can meet needs in small groupThings I think that will help me:*I have 1 hour and 10 minutes for math each day*I have lots of great station ideas and feel I can implement your schedule to make everything work (as long as I can figure out small group lessons)Could you tell me how your journals are set up. I like this set up because it seems more managable. Anyone have any ideas?Sarah.
