The bay is very shallow for a long, long way. At the end of the jetty there is an underwater observatory which is a truly great experience. The Jetty is the center point of Busselton's foreshore. Located 1.7 kilometres from shore at the end of the Jetty, the Underwater Observatory has been designed to accommodate up to 40 people at one time. The Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty (pier) in the southern hemisphere, which is its official world standing. Unbeknownst to us when looking from above, the entire jetty / pier has created an ideal habitat for many types of aquatic life. The underwater observatory is located 1.8 km from shore – almost at the end of the Busselton Jetty – and can accommodate up to 40 people at a time in its 9.5 m diameter observation chamber.
